Overview

Health and poverty are deeply connected. When you’re homeless or barely surviving, healthcare becomes a luxury you can’t afford. But untreated health issues make it even harder to escape poverty. A person with untreated diabetes can’t work consistently. Someone with infected wounds can’t focus on finding employment. By addressing medical needs, we remove barriers that keep people trapped in cycles of poverty.

KSK’s medical programme has prevented blindness through cataract treatments, managed chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, treated infections, and provided medications to over 978 individuals in 2024 alone. For many, we’re the only medical care they receive.

What You’ll Do

If you’re a medical professional (doctor, nurse, pharmacist, medical student), you’ll provide direct care: conducting health screenings, treating minor ailments, managing chronic conditions, distributing medications, doing wound care, and referring serious cases to hospitals.

If you’re not medically trained, you can still help by assisting with administrative tasks in the medical programme: registering patients, organizing medical supplies, maintaining health records, accompanying patients to hospital appointments, and supporting medical staff during outreach sessions.

Your Questions Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can pregnant women volunteer?

We don't recommend it due to the physical nature of some activities and outdoor conditions.

  • Can I volunteer as a student?

Yes, students are always welcome! However, we understand transport is often a challenge, so we've created an alternative pathway.

If you'd like to interview our staff or beneficiaries for your academic work, we ask that you contribute to KSK in one of these ways: purchase handmade cookies from our Empowerment programme (which directly funds single mothers' income), or make a monetary donation. This contribution sustains our work whilst enabling us to support your research. In exchange, you'll gain valuable insights from real stories, and your work helps amplify our mission.

To get started, fill out our interview request form and let us know what you're working on.

  • What happens after you applied for volunteering?

Our operations team will contact you within one business day to arrange availability. If the volunteer slot is unavailable, we’ll suggest alternative activities.

  • What happens after slot confirmation?

We'll set up a WhatsApp group so your team stays connected with us. Invite whoever needs to be in the loop. Everyone will fill out a quick onboarding form and share their car plate number if they'll be driving on the volunteering day.

  • What medical certifications are accepted?

We accept qualified doctors, nurses, paramedics, and certified first-aiders (St John Ambulance, Red Crescent, or equivalent).

  • Will I be working alone?

No. You will be integrated into the outreach team and always have staff support available.
