I first learned about KSK’s Empowerment Programme in October 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, I was interested in joining and began with sewing initiatives together with KSK. About a year later, I started baking at KSK’s Empowerment Centre in Setapak.
Before joining KSK, my husband was the sole breadwinner supporting our family. However, he later had to undergo leg amputations due to diabetes. After that, we relied on SOCSO to help cover his medical needs. During that difficult period, I took up a short term job as a supermarket promoter for two months, but it was challenging to commit to full time work while caring for my husband and attending to his medical appointments.
What I truly appreciate about KSK’s Empowerment Programme is the flexibility it offers. On most days, I bake at KSK when there are corporate or Malaysian orders for cookie tubs. At the same time, I am able to accompany my husband whenever he needs medical attention. While the income may not be much, it helps to ease our financial burden. Occasionally, I also take on weekend cleaning jobs on a project basis when opportunities arise.
I am deeply grateful to KSK, the sponsors, and my fellow baking team for the support, encouragement, and hope they have given us. It truly means a lot to me. Pahala. Thank you. 💛
